Rose and Nail

Rose and Nail

Wall installation

Rose petal, nail, time

« Return to photographs of this work

Each morning I nail the petal of a red rose to the wall with a black steel nail. A fresh petal appears every day next to the already withered ones. This is how time becomes the third element of the work, along with the petal and the nail.

If the work comes into its being at a fixed location, it is also related to an infinite space. It never starts and it never ends. It can be realized everywhere. Then it becomes an eternal process, even though here it is materialized for a limited time. The nailing of a petal makes the work anew every day. And when the nail pierces the petal, pain extends the work.
